What is CMMI?
|
 |
Capability Maturity Model® Integration (CMMI) is a process improvement approach that provides organizations with the essential elements of effective processes. It can be used to guide process improvement across a project, a division, or an entire organization.
CMMI helps integrate traditionally separate organizational functions, set process improvement goals and priorities, provide guidance for quality processes, and provide a point of reference for appraising current processes.
Software Engineering Institute (SEI) is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) established in 1984, sponsored by the US Department of Defense and operated by Carnegie Mellon University.
CMMI provides a systems perspective on organizational process improvement. It focuses on management issues associated with putting effective and efficient processes in place, along with systematic process improvement. It also provides a common, integrated vision of improvement for all elements of an organization and appraisal across multiple disciplines.
What are the benefits?
|
 |
CMMI-based process improvement benefits include:
- Improved schedule and budget predictability
- Improved cycle time
- Increased productivity
- Improved quality (as measured by defects)
- Increased customer satisfaction
- Improved employee morale
- Increased return on investment
- Decreased cost of quality
For customers, this translates into cost-effective, quality solutions delivered on time, within budget.
Protech and its group of companies undertook a combined, global assessment for Version 1.1 CMMI Maturity Level 5, which is the highest level of process maturity under the model.
Protech group was successfully assessed at Version 1.1 CMMI Maturity Level 5 in December 2004 and as per results published by SEI was:
- One of the first 60 companies at that time to be appraised at Level 5
- One of the first 15 companies to have been appraised for all disciplines
Currently, Protech is currently preparing for reappraisal for Maturity Level 5 under Version 1.2.
